TIFF to PNG Converter
Convert .tif and .tiff images to PNG. Select or drop one or more TIFF files and every page becomes a lossless PNG you can download one by one or as a ZIP. LZW, Deflate, PackBits, JPEG and CCITT fax compression, multi-page files, transparency and 16-bit images are supported. Conversion runs in your browser, so your files are never uploaded.
or drop .tif / .tiff files here • no file limit • every page of multi-page TIFFs
Every Page
Multi-page TIFFs become one PNG per page, named name-page-1.png, name-page-2.png, …
Lossless Output
8-bit pixels and transparency are kept exactly; 16-bit images are reduced to 8 bits per channel.
Private
Files are decoded on your device. Nothing is uploaded, so confidential scans stay with you.
TIFF to PNG converter: turn .tif and .tiff files into PNG, free and private
To convert a TIFF to PNG for free, click Select TIFF Files, or drop .tif and .tiff files onto the box. Each file is converted as soon as it is added: a single-page TIFF becomes name.png, and a multi-page TIFF becomes name-page-1.png, name-page-2.png and so on. Click Download beside a PNG, or Download All (ZIP) to save everything as tiff-to-png.zip.
TIFF is a flexible container for scans and print-ready images; PNG is a lossless format every browser can show. This converter runs in your browser: the TIFF is decoded on your own device, nothing is uploaded, and you can check the Network tab in DevTools. 8-bit pixels and transparency are written exactly, and 16-bit pages are reduced to 8 bits per channel.
Need the opposite direction? Use the PNG to TIFF converter. Other sources have their own tools, such as JPG to PNG, BMP to PNG and WebP to PNG.
Table of Use: what each kind of TIFF becomes
| Your TIFF | The PNG you get |
|---|---|
| Single-page photo or scan | name.png at the same pixel size |
| Multi-page scan or fax | One PNG per page, named name-page-1.png, name-page-2.png, ... |
| Black-and-white scan (CCITT fax, LZW) | A 1-bit PNG when every pixel is pure black or white, the smallest lossless layout |
| RGB image with an alpha channel | RGBA PNG with the transparency kept exactly |
| 16-bit image | 8-bit PNG; tonal precision is reduced |
| CMYK print file | RGB PNG using R = 255 × (1 − C) × (1 − K), and likewise for G and B, with no profile |
| RGB, palette or greyscale page with an ICC profile (Adobe RGB, Display P3) | PNG with the same profile embedded |
| BigTIFF, or WebP, Zstandard, JPEG 2000 or LERC compression | Not converted; a message explains why |
Convert when you need to share, display or edit the picture in ordinary software. Keep the original TIFF for archives and print masters, because it may hold 16-bit data, a CMYK profile, metadata or several pages that the PNG does not carry over.
Features
- Every page converted. Reduced-size previews and transparency masks stored inside the TIFF are skipped, so you get only the real pages.
- Wide TIFF support. Uncompressed, LZW, Deflate, PackBits, JPEG and CCITT Group 3 and 4 data; black-and-white, greyscale, palette, RGB and CMYK images at 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32 bits per sample; striped or tiled layouts; and the Orientation tag, so rotated scans come out upright.
- An exact PNG writer. The PNG is written directly instead of through a browser canvas, which would round away the colour of nearly transparent pixels. It picks the smallest lossless layout: 1-bit, greyscale, greyscale with alpha, RGB or RGBA.
- Size comparison. Each card shows pixel dimensions, the TIFF and PNG sizes and, for single-page files, a percentage smaller or larger.
- Batch conversion. There is no file limit. Files convert one after another, and one that fails is reported without stopping the rest. Pages above 100 megapixels are refused, because decoding needs roughly 15 bytes of memory per pixel; a 4000 × 3000 page (12 megapixels) therefore needs about 180 MB while it is converted.
Once you have PNGs, shrink them with the image compressor, scale them with the image resizer or trim margins with the image cropper.
How to convert TIFF to PNG, step by step
- Click Select TIFF Files, or drop .tif and .tiff files on the dashed box. You can pick several at once.
- Wait while the status line shows progress such as "converting scan.tif (page 2 of 5)".
- Check each card: pixel size, TIFF size and PNG size (single-page files also show the smaller or larger percentage).
- Click Download on a card, or Download All (ZIP) for tiff-to-png.zip.
- Click Add More TIFF Files to continue, Clear All to start over, or the bin icon to remove one result.
- If "Some files need attention" appears, read the reason listed for each file.
Who can use it
- Office and records staff with multi-page scans or faxes that need to open anywhere.
- Designers and print teams who receive TIFF artwork but need a PNG for the web or a framed preview.
- Web publishers who need browser-friendly images from archive TIFFs, perhaps then a WebP version.
- Anyone sharing a scan as a small JPG after converting it.
FAQs
How do I convert a TIFF to PNG for free?
Click Select TIFF Files, or drop .tif or .tiff files onto the box. Each file is converted straight away: a single-page TIFF becomes name.png and a multi-page TIFF becomes name-page-1.png, name-page-2.png and so on. Then click Download on a result card, or Download All (ZIP) to get tiff-to-png.zip. There is no sign-up and no file limit.
Is it safe to convert TIFF files online, or are they uploaded?
Nothing is uploaded. The TIFF is read, decoded and written as PNG inside your browser, so confidential scans stay on your device, and you can confirm it in the Network tab of DevTools. The only requests are for the converter's own code: the decoder loads from ZipConvert the first time you convert a file, and the ZIP library loads the first time you click Download All (ZIP).
Does converting TIFF to PNG lose quality?
Not for 8-bit images: every pixel, including transparency, is written to the PNG exactly. 16-bit pages are reduced to 8 bits per channel, which is rarely visible on screen but drops tonal precision. CMYK pages are converted to RGB with a simple formula and no colour profile, so their colours can differ from what Photoshop shows.
How do I convert a multi-page TIFF to PNG?
Add the file as usual. Every page becomes its own PNG, numbered in file order, for example report-page-1.png to report-page-5.png. Reduced-size preview copies that some scanners and pyramid TIFFs store beside the real pages are skipped, so you only get the full-size pages. Use Download All (ZIP) to save them together.
Why is my PNG bigger than the TIFF?
PNG compresses losslessly, so how much it saves depends on how the TIFF was stored. Uncompressed TIFFs usually shrink a lot, LZW or Deflate TIFFs shrink less, and JPEG-compressed TIFFs often grow, because PNG must keep every decoded pixel exactly. For a single-page TIFF the card shows both sizes with a "% smaller" or "% larger" label; pages of a multi-page file show the whole TIFF's size instead.
Why does my TIFF not convert?
The converter reads classic TIFF files with uncompressed, LZW, Deflate, PackBits, JPEG or CCITT fax data. It cannot decode BigTIFF, TIFFs compressed with WebP, Zstandard, JPEG 2000 or LERC, or Lab and LogLuv colour. Pages over 100 megapixels are refused to protect memory. The message under "Some files need attention" names the reason, and in Safari the browser's own decoder is tried as a fallback.
What is the difference between TIFF and PNG?
TIFF is a container used for scans and print work: one file can hold many pages, several compression methods, CMYK colour and 16 or 32 bits per channel. PNG holds one picture (or an animation), never separate pages; it is always lossless and shows in every browser, whereas most browsers other than Safari cannot display TIFF. That is why TIFF scans are often converted to PNG for the web.
What happens to DPI, EXIF and the colour profile?
Only the embedded ICC colour profile is carried over, and only for RGB, palette and greyscale pages, so colour-managed apps show the same colours. EXIF, IPTC, XMP and resolution (DPI) tags are not written to the PNG. Keep the original TIFF if you need that information, and note that CMYK pages are converted to RGB without a profile.
