When Converting JPG to PNG Makes Sense
Convert before you edit: crop, annotate or retouch the PNG and re-save it freely, then export a JPG at the end if you need a small file. Convert when an upload form, app store or design tool accepts only PNG. And convert when you want a transparent version: do it first, then cut the background out with the Remove Background tool, because the result needs PNG or WebP to keep its transparency.
For photographs on a website, PNG is usually the wrong choice. Keep the JPG and shrink it with the Image Compressor, or choose a modern format with the PNG to WebP Converter. Memory is the practical limit: a decoded image needs about width × height × 4 bytes, so a 6000 × 4000 photo uses roughly 96 MB while it converts. If your browser refuses one, reduce it with the Image Resizer first.

How do I convert JPG to PNG without losing quality?

Does converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?
No. The PNG is an exact copy of the decoded pixels, so blur and compression artifacts already in the JPG stay in the PNG. The gain is stability: you can edit and re-save a PNG as often as you like without the extra loss that every JPG re-save adds.
Why is my PNG file bigger than the JPG?
JPG reaches small sizes by discarding detail, while PNG keeps every pixel, which cannot shrink a photograph nearly as much, so a photo often becomes several times larger. Flat graphics, screenshots and simple logos can come out about the same size or smaller. Each card shows the JPG size and the PNG size side by side.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so every pixel of the PNG is fully opaque, white backgrounds included. PNG can store transparency, but something has to remove the background first. Convert here, then use the Remove Background tool or an image editor to cut the subject out.
Is it safe to convert JPG to PNG online?
With this converter, yes. Your browser decodes each JPG and encodes the PNG on your device, so the files are never sent to ZipConvert or anyone else. You can confirm in the Network tab of DevTools that no request carries your image. The page only fetches its own code, such as the ZIP library on first use. Files disappear when you close the tab.
What happens to rotation and EXIF data when I convert?
The browser applies the camera's EXIF orientation while decoding, so a portrait photo stays upright in the PNG. EXIF metadata such as camera model, date and GPS location is not copied into the PNG, which also makes the PNG safer to share.
Can I convert JPG to PNG on my phone, or many files at once?
Yes to both, in a current mobile browser: tap Select Files and choose your photos. Several files are converted one after another to keep memory use low, then saved singly or as one ZIP.
