Image Rotator

Rotate photos 90° or 180° (lossless with PNG output), straighten them by any angle down to 0.1°, and flip them horizontally or vertically. Choose how to handle the corners, preview live, and download one image or a ZIP of a whole batch. Free, no sign-up, and your images never leave your browser.

Summary

An image rotator turns a picture by a chosen angle and saves the result as a new file. To rotate an image free and privately here, click Select Images, press 90° Left, 90° Right or 180° (or type any angle), check the Result preview and click Download Rotated Image. The work happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded, which you can confirm in the Network tab of DevTools.

Turns of 90° just swap width and height, so a 4000 × 3000 image becomes 3000 × 4000. Other angles can be set in steps of 0.1° from −180° to 180°, and you choose what happens to the corners. The same rotation and flips apply to every image in a batch. If you only need to mirror pictures, the image flip tool does that on its own.

Features

  • Quick Rotate & Flip buttons for 90° Left, 90° Right, 180°, Flip Horizontal and Flip Vertical.
  • Custom Angle by number, slider or the -1°, -0.1°, +0.1° and +1° buttons. Positive is clockwise, and angles are kept between −180° and 180°.
  • Corner handling for angles that are not a multiple of 90°, with a Corner fill of Transparent, White, Black or Custom colour.
  • A preview that updates as you change settings, with the original and result sizes and an optional grid for straightening.
  • Output format: same as original, PNG (lossless), JPG or WebP at 95% quality.
  • Batch rotation of any number of images with one setting, delivered as a ZIP. Reset clears the angle and flips.

For an angle θ, Expand canvas makes the output width × |cos θ| + height × |sin θ| wide and width × |sin θ| + height × |cos θ| tall. Here is how the three corner modes compare for 4000 × 3000 pixels turned by 5°:

Output size of the three corner modes for a 4000 by 3000 image rotated 5 degrees
Corners modeOutput sizeWhat happens
Expand canvas4246 × 3337Everything is kept; new corners are filled
Crop to remove corners3594 × 2695Largest same-shape rectangle with no empty corners
Keep original size4000 × 3000Edges are cut off and the corners are filled

The rotation is baked into the pixels and EXIF tags are not copied, so apps that ignore orientation tags show the file exactly as the preview does. To crop after rotating, use the image cropper.

How to Use the Image Rotator

  1. Click Select Images or drag one or more pictures onto the upload area. Use Add images later to add more.
  2. In Quick Rotate & Flip, press 90° Left, 90° Right or 180°, and toggle Flip Horizontal or Flip Vertical if needed.
  3. For a small tilt, type a value in Rotation angle or use the slider, tick Grid (for straightening) and choose Crop to remove corners.
  4. Set Corner fill and Output format, then compare Original with Result.
  5. Press Download Rotated Image for the selected picture, or Rotate All [number] & Download ZIP when several are loaded.

Who Can Use It

Phone photographers can right a sideways shot, and office staff can turn scanned pages. Sellers can straighten product pictures, and designers can tilt logos on transparent backgrounds before placing them with the image overlay tool or Add Text to Image.

Afterwards, resize with the image resizer, shrink the file with the image compressor, frame it with the image border adder, or change format with the PNG to JPG converter or the JPG to PNG converter.

FAQs

How do I rotate an image online for free?

Click Select Images and choose one or more pictures. Press 90° Left, 90° Right or 180°, or type an angle in the Rotation angle box, where positive is clockwise. The Result preview updates as you go. Then click Download Rotated Image, or the Rotate All [number] & Download ZIP button to apply the same rotation to every image you added.

How do I straighten a tilted photo?

Tick Grid (for straightening) over the Result preview, then nudge the angle with the -1°, -0.1°, +0.1° and +1° buttons until a horizon or building edge lines up with a grid line. Choose Crop to remove corners so no empty wedges remain, then download. Small tilts often need only a degree or two.

Does rotating an image reduce quality?

A turn of 90°, 180° or 270° moves pixels without resampling, so PNG output stays lossless. Any other angle must blend neighbouring pixels, which softens the picture very slightly. JPG and WebP output is re-saved at 95% quality, so pick PNG if you need a lossless file. For right angles, a note under the preview says which case applies.

What happens to the corners when I rotate by 45 degrees?

A tilted rectangle no longer fills a straight frame, so you choose. Expand canvas keeps the whole picture on a larger canvas, Crop to remove corners trims to the largest same-shape rectangle with no empty corners, and Keep original size cuts the edges and fills the corners. Corner fill can be transparent, white, black or any colour.

Why are the corners white when I rotate a JPG?

JPG cannot store transparency, so the empty corners need a colour. With Corner fill on Transparent, JPG output gets white corners, and a note under Corner fill says so. For transparent corners, set Output format to PNG or WebP and keep Corner fill on Transparent; for another colour choose Black or Custom colour. A multiple of 90° leaves no corners at all.

What is the difference between flipping and rotating 180 degrees?

Rotating 180° turns the picture upside down, so left and right swap as well. A horizontal flip mirrors left and right only, and a vertical flip mirrors top and bottom only. Doing both flips equals a 180° rotation. Flips are applied after the rotation, so Flip Horizontal always mirrors what you see in the preview.

Is it safe to rotate private photos here?

Yes. Rotation runs in your browser with the canvas API, so your images stay on your device, and the Network tab in DevTools shows no image upload. The tool never sends your images anywhere; the only file it loads on demand is its ZIP library, from this site, when you download several images as a ZIP. There is no sign-up and no watermark.
