Summary: How to Add Text to an Image Free and Privately

To add text to an image free and privately, choose a photo in the tool above, click Add Text Layer, type your words, drag them into place and click Download. The text is drawn onto a canvas in your browser, so the saved file keeps the photo's full pixel width and height, with no watermark and no account. Choose from 64 fonts or load your own, and save as PNG, JPEG or WebP.

Your photo and text are processed on your own device and are never uploaded; you can confirm this in the Network tab of your browser's DevTools. The only third-party request the tool can make is for a Google Font, and only after you pick one (the FAQ below says what Google receives).

Need a repeating or logo ownership mark instead? Use the watermark tool. To set dimensions first, use the image resizer or the image cropper, and shrink the finished file for the web with the image compressor.

Features

  • No fixed layer limit. Each layer keeps its own text, font, size, colors and effects; later layers sit on top.
  • 64 fonts or your own. 13 system fonts (used if your device has them), 51 Google Fonts, and Upload font for TTF, OTF, WOFF or WOFF2 files. Your browser's own text engine draws the text, so Arabic, Devanagari, Chinese and emoji work when a font on your device has the glyphs.
  • Drag or slide to position. Drag with a mouse or finger, or set Position X and Y (the text's center, in pixels) and Rotation from -180 to 180 degrees.
  • Effects per layer. Outline Width, Shadow Blur, a Background box with its own color and opacity, a top-to-bottom Gradient fill, Curve and 3D Depth. New layers start as white text with a thin black outline.
  • Full-size output. The preview is capped at 1,600 pixels on the long side to stay smooth; downloads use the image's own width and height. The blue selection outline is preview-only and never saved.
  • Batch with one ZIP. Add Images keeps adding photos; Download All saves them as images-with-text.zip.
  • Limits. Only image files are accepted. Images over 32,767 pixels on a side or about 268 megapixels are rejected with a message, and phone browsers may allow less. Animated GIFs use their first frame.

How to Use the Add Text to Image Tool

  1. Click Select Image, or drop image files on the dashed box. Each image gets a card showing its name and pixel size.
  2. Click Add Text Layer. A layer reading "Your Text Here" appears in the center; replace it in the Text box.
  3. Drag the text in the Preview to move it, or use the Position X, Position Y and Rotation sliders.
  4. Pick a Font (or click Upload font), then set Font Size and Text Color, and add Outline Width, Shadow Blur, Background box, Gradient fill, Curve or 3D Depth as needed.
  5. Choose Save as if you want a specific format, then click Download. The button shows the format, for example Download PNG.
  6. For several images, finish one, click Use these text layers on all other images, then Download All. The X on a card removes that image.

Add text last. Fix a dark photo with the brightness adjuster, soften a distracting background with the image blur tool, or cut the subject out with the background remover. To match a text color to the photo, sample it with the image color picker; to change a caption's case, use the text case converter.

For smaller files, convert the result with the PNG to WebP converter or the PNG to JPG converter, or place it in a photo collage.

Who Can Use It

  • Social media managers and creators adding quotes, titles and calls to action to posts and thumbnails, then framing them with the image border adder.
  • Online sellers stamping a price or "New" tag on a batch of product photos.
  • Teachers and students labeling diagrams and screenshots.
  • Photographers and bloggers adding captions or a credit line without uploading the photo anywhere.

FAQs

How do I add text to an image online for free?

Click Select Image and choose a photo, then click Add Text Layer and type your words in the Text box. Drag the text into place, adjust font, size and color, and click Download. There is no signup and no watermark, and the file keeps the photo's original pixel size.

How do I add text to a photo on iPhone or Android?

Open this page in your phone's browser, tap Select Image and pick a photo from your library. Add a text layer and drag the text with your finger, or use the Position X and Y sliders. Tap Download. Very large photos can exceed a phone browser's canvas limit, and the tool then shows an error.

Is it safe to add text to a photo online? Are my images uploaded?

Your image and text are never uploaded: they are drawn on a canvas on your device and the download is created there. The only third-party request the tool can make is to Google Fonts, and only after you pick a Google font. Google then sees your IP address and which font and character range you asked for, never your picture or words.

Can I use my own font when I add text to an image?

Yes. Click Upload font next to the font menu and choose a TTF, OTF, WOFF or WOFF2 file. It is read by your browser, is not uploaded, and is available until you leave or reload the page. You can also pick from 13 common system fonts, which depend on what your device has installed, and 51 Google Fonts.

How do I make curved or circular text on a picture?

Select the text layer and move the Curve slider, which runs from -360 to 360 degrees. A positive angle arches the text upward like a rainbow, a negative angle dips it like a smile, and 360 wraps it into a full circle. Outline, shadow, gradient, 3D depth and rotation still apply.

How do I keep text readable on a busy photo?

Add contrast between the letters and the picture. White text with a dark outline works on most photos, a soft Shadow Blur adds separation, and the Background box puts a semi-transparent panel under the words (60% opacity by default). Judge the result at the size people will see it, such as a phone screen.

Can I add the same text to many images at once?

Yes. Add several images, build the text layers on one, then click Use these text layers on all other images. This replaces any layers on the others and scales positions, font sizes, outlines, shadows and 3D depth to each image's size. Download All saves every result in one ZIP file, images-with-text.zip.

What format and quality is the downloaded image?

Under Save as, choose the original format, PNG, JPEG or WebP. The original format is kept when the browser can write it; otherwise the file is saved as PNG. JPEG and WebP are encoded at 92% quality, PNG is lossless, and JPEG turns transparent areas white. Downloads use the original width and height, not the smaller on-screen preview. The browser re-encodes the image, so camera EXIF data and the original DPI value are not carried over; set the DPI in your print or layout software if you need one.
