Image Flip Tool

Mirror a photo left-to-right, flip it upside down, or both. Pick the direction, add one or more images, and download the flipped copies one by one or as a ZIP. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP, BMP, AVIF • JPG and WebP stay JPG and WebP; other formats are saved as PNG

Flip an image online, free and private

To flip an image online, choose Horizontal, Vertical or Both (180°) at the top of the tool, click Choose Images (or drop files on the upload area) and download the result. Horizontal mirrors the picture left to right, Vertical turns it upside down by mirroring it top to bottom, and Both gives the same picture as rotating it 180 degrees.

Each image is flipped the moment it loads and shown next to the original, so you can check it before saving. Everything runs in your browser: the pixels are mirrored on a canvas on your own device, nothing is uploaded, and you can confirm that in the Network tab of DevTools. JPG and WebP keep their format (Safari and iPhone browsers cannot write WebP, so there a WebP is saved as PNG), and everything else is saved as PNG with transparency intact.

If you need to turn a picture by 90 degrees or a few degrees rather than mirror it, use the image rotator. To trim the result afterwards, open the image cropper.

Features

  • Three directions. Horizontal, Vertical and Both (180°). The one selected at the top applies to images you add next.
  • Per-image buttons. H, V and Both under each image flip that image again from its original. They do not stack: pressing V after H gives a vertical flip, not both.
  • Set all. The Set all to button re-flips every image to the direction selected at the top.
  • Side-by-side preview of Original and Flipped, with the image size shown under it.
  • Format kept. JPG and WebP are saved in their own format at quality 0.95 (Safari and iPhone browsers cannot write WebP and save it as PNG instead); PNG, GIF, BMP, AVIF and other types are saved as PNG. Transparent areas stay transparent.
  • Upright phone photos. Modern browsers apply the camera's orientation tag when they open a photo, so the saved copy is flipped from the picture you see.
  • Batch and ZIP. One image downloads directly; two or more download as one ZIP with clashing names made unique.
  • No resize or crop. Width and height stay the same; the browser converts photos with an embedded colour profile to sRGB.

After flipping, shrink the files with the image compressor, change their size with the image resizer, or frame them with the image border adder.

How to flip an image, step by step

  1. Pick the direction at the top: Horizontal, Vertical or Both (180°).
  2. Click Choose Images, or drag one or more pictures onto the upload area.
  3. Compare Original with Flipped under each image. Use H, V or Both below it to change that image only.
  4. Click Set all to if you want every image to use the direction selected at the top.
  5. Click the download icon on an image, or Download All (ZIP). Use Clear All to start again.

Who can use it

  • Phone photographers whose front-camera pictures come out mirrored.
  • Online sellers who want every product facing the same way across a catalogue, then a thumbnail for each listing.
  • Crafters and print shops preparing reversed artwork for transfer paper.
  • Designers making symmetrical layouts or a mirrored copy to combine with the image overlay tool.
  • Teachers and office staff fixing scans that were fed in backwards, then adding a label with Add Text to Image.

FAQs

How do I flip an image horizontally online?

Click Horizontal at the top of the tool, then click Choose Images or drop your files on the upload area. Each image is flipped as soon as it loads and shown next to the original. Click the download button under it, or Download All (ZIP) when you have several. It works the same in a phone browser; pick the photo from your library.

What is the difference between flipping horizontally and vertically?

A horizontal flip mirrors the image left to right, like a reflection in a mirror: text reads backwards and a person facing left now faces right. A vertical flip mirrors it top to bottom, so it turns upside down. Doing both is the same as rotating the image 180 degrees, and the tool offers it as Both (180°).

How do I fix a mirrored selfie?

Some phones save front-camera photos mirrored, so text on a shirt or a sign reads backwards. Choose Horizontal and add the photo: the left-right mirroring is reversed and the text reads correctly again. If the picture is upside down rather than mirrored, choose Both (180°) instead, because a vertical flip alone would mirror it.

Is flipping an image the same as rotating it?

No. Rotating turns the whole picture around its centre, so nothing is mirrored. Flipping makes a mirror image. The one overlap is that a horizontal plus a vertical flip equals a 180 degree rotation. To turn an image 90 degrees or by a small angle to fix a tilt, use the image rotator instead.

Does flipping an image reduce its quality?

The width and height stay the same, and PNG output is lossless, so fully opaque PNG, GIF and BMP pixels are kept exactly. Semi-transparent pixels can shift by a few levels, and photos with an embedded colour profile are converted to sRGB. JPG and WebP files are encoded again at quality 0.95, which looks identical in normal use but is not bit-for-bit the same as the original file.

Can I flip several images at once, each a different way?

Yes. Add as many images as you like; each takes the direction selected at the top. Under every image the H, V and Both buttons re-flip that one from its original, so you can mix directions. "Set all to" applies the selected direction to every image. Download All (ZIP) saves them together as flipped-images.zip.

Will a transparent PNG stay transparent, and what happens to a GIF?

Yes. Transparent areas stay transparent, and the flipped image is saved as PNG. A GIF is also saved as PNG, which means an animated GIF becomes a single still image instead of an animation. JPG and WebP files keep their own format (Safari, which cannot write WebP, saves a PNG instead). The saved file is named like photo-flipped-horizontal.png so it never overwrites the original.

Is it safe to flip photos online, and are they uploaded?

The images are not uploaded. Your browser reads and flips them with the Canvas API on your own device, so nothing is sent to ZipConvert or anyone else, and closing the tab discards everything. The saved copy is drawn on a canvas and encoded again, so metadata such as GPS position in the original is not copied into it.
