Summary

A certificate generator is a tool that lays out a recipient's name, the reason for the award, the issuer and a date as a printable certificate. To make a certificate free and privately here, click a Quick start button such as Completion, enter the Recipient name, Achievement text, Organization, Signature line and date, choose a style and color, and click Print / Save as PDF. It is drawn in your browser and nothing is uploaded; you can check the Network tab in DevTools.

The certificate prints on one landscape page at 257 x 182 mm, so it fits A4 and US Letter with 10 mm margins. To get a PDF instead of paper, choose Save as PDF as the destination in the print dialog. Everything resets when you close the page, so save the PDF before you leave.

Add a matching digital mark for the winner with the badge generator, or bring attendees into the event with the ticket generator.

Table of Use: Which Type to Pick and What to Write

Certificate types, the Quick start button to use and example achievement text
OccasionQuick startAchievement text that reads well
Course or workshop finishedCompletionhas successfully completed the Advanced Training Program
Competition or top resultAchievementhas won first place in the 2026 Junior Chess Championship
Thanking a volunteerAppreciationhas given generously of their time to our community kitchen
Event or fair attendanceParticipationfor taking part in the Annual Science Fair
Staff or team awardExcellencehas shown exceptional work and leadership this year

The sample wording on the buttons is a starting point. Because the certificate always prints "This is to certify that" above the name, edit the Achievement text so the sentence runs on naturally, for example by changing "your" to "their" in the Appreciation sample.

Features

  • Five Quick start buttons that fill in a title and sample wording: Achievement, Completion, Appreciation, Participation and Excellence. You can also type any Certificate title.
  • Three styles. They differ in border, corners and typeface, as the table below shows.
  • Primary Color for the border, organization name, title and signature lines. A warning appears if the color is too light to read on white (below 3:1 contrast).
  • Emblem or logo. Choose Trophy, Graduation cap, Medal, Star, Scroll or None, or upload your own PNG, JPG, SVG, WebP or GIF logo, which takes the emblem's place.
  • Six text fields. Certificate title, Recipient name, Achievement text, Organization, Signature line and the date. The date starts as today's date in the form October 6, 2026, and a Today button resets it; you can type any format.
  • Cut-off warning. If the text is too long to fit, a message says it will be cut off.

Limits: one certificate at a time, no batch import and no hand-drawn signature; the signature line prints the name you type beneath a rule, so sign above it in pen. For a transparent logo, try the background remover, and shrink a large file first with the image resizer.

How to Use the Certificate Generator

  1. Under Details, click a Quick start button, or type your own Certificate title.
  2. Fill in Recipient name, Achievement text, Organization, Signature line and Date shown on the certificate.

Round off an event with name cards from the business card generator, cover notes from the letter generator, a CV for a graduate from the resume builder, stickers from the label generator, or a scannable link from the QR code generator.

FAQs

How do I make a certificate online for free?

Click a Quick start button (Achievement, Completion, Appreciation, Participation or Excellence) or type your own Certificate title. Then fill in Recipient name, Achievement text, Organization, Signature line and the date. Choose Classic, Modern or Elegant, a Primary Color and an Emblem or your logo, check the preview, and click Print / Save as PDF. No account or watermark.

How do I print a certificate or save it as a PDF?

Click Print / Save as PDF. The certificate is set to print on one landscape page with 10 mm margins, at 257 x 182 mm, which fits both A4 and US Letter paper, and the rest of the website is left off. To keep a file, choose Save as PDF as the destination in the print dialog, then email it or take it to a print shop.

Can I add my school or company logo to the certificate?

Yes. Use Or upload your logo to choose a PNG, JPG, SVG, WebP or GIF file. It replaces the emblem at the top of the certificate. The image is read by your browser and is never uploaded. Click Remove logo to go back to an emblem. A logo with a transparent background looks cleanest against the white page.

How do I make certificates for several people?

Print or save the first certificate, change the Recipient name (and anything else that differs), and print again. Style, color, logo and wording stay as they are while the page stays open, so each extra certificate takes seconds. There is no spreadsheet import or batch mode, and everything resets when you close or reload the page.

What should a certificate include?

A certificate normally has a title, the recipient's name, a short line saying what was achieved, the name of the organisation that issues it, a signature and a date. This generator has a field for each of those, plus an optional emblem or logo. The words "This is to certify that" are printed above the recipient's name, so write the achievement text to follow on from them.

What is the difference between a certificate of achievement, completion and participation?

A certificate of achievement recognizes a result, such as winning a competition or reaching a high standard. A certificate of completion confirms that someone finished a course, programme or workshop. A certificate of participation acknowledges that someone took part in an event. Appreciation certificates thank people for their help. The Quick start buttons set the matching title and sample wording.

What paper should I print certificates on?

Heavier paper feels more official. Card stock of roughly 160 to 250 gsm (about 60 to 90 lb cover) in white or ivory suits many home printers, but check the maximum weight in your printer's manual. Set the print scale to 100% and check the margin settings so the border is not clipped at the edges.

Is the information I type stored or uploaded?

No. Names, wording and logos stay in your browser and are gone when you close the page. The certificate is drawn and printed by your own browser, the logo is shown from a temporary local link, and nothing is sent to ZipConvert. You can confirm this in the Network tab of your browser DevTools.
