Summary: How to Use a Free Resume Builder Privately
A free resume builder turns a form into a formatted resume you can print or send. To make one here, fill in your contact details, summary, jobs, education and skills, pick a template and click Print / Save as PDF, then choose Save as PDF as the printer. The result is a single-column page of real text, with no watermark and no account.
The builder runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded (you can check the Network tab in DevTools). Your entries are saved automatically in this browser's local storage, so a refresh keeps your work, and Clear all wipes your details from this browser. The Word Counter helps you keep the summary short.
Table of Use: What to Enter and What You Get
| Goal | What to do | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Make a short resume for a first job | Fill Personal Info, one Education entry and Skills; use + Add Section for Projects or Volunteering | A single-column page with Summary, Education, Skills and your extra section |
| Send a PDF to a recruiter | Click Print / Save as PDF and choose Save as PDF as the printer | A text PDF with 12 mm page margins and none of the form or site header |
| List achievements under a job | Type one achievement per line in Description, starting each with a dash if you want a bullet look | Your line breaks are kept exactly as typed; the builder does not add bullet symbols |
| Put the newest job first | Use the up and down arrow buttons beside Job 1, Job 2 and so on | The entries swap places in the form and in the preview |
| Add certificates, languages or awards | + Add Section, then a title and one item per line | A new headed section after Skills |
| Leave a shared computer | Click Clear all and confirm | A blank form, and your details wiped from this browser |
The preview always lists sections in the same order: header, Summary, Experience, Education, Skills, then your extra sections. A job, education entry or section with every field empty is left out of the preview and the printout, so a blank row never leaves a gap.
Features of the Free Resume Builder
- Live preview. The resume sits beside the form on wide screens and below it on phones, and updates on every keystroke.
- Three templates. Classic, Modern and Professional share one set of data, so you can switch at any time without retyping.
- Add, remove and reorder. Any number of jobs, education entries and extra sections, each with up, down and remove buttons. After a move, keyboard focus stays on the moved entry's arrow button (its other arrow once it reaches an end of the list); after a removal it moves to the next entry's Remove button, else the previous entry's, or the Add button if none is left, and a screen-reader message announces each change.
- Print-only output. The print stylesheet hides the form, the site header, the footer and this article, sets 12 mm page margins and asks the browser not to split a single job, education entry, Skills list or extra section across two pages. Paper size comes from your print dialog.
- Auto-save in this browser. The data is stored in local storage after your first edit and restored on your next visit. It never leaves the device.
- Links and direction. Your email becomes a mailto link and your website or LinkedIn address a link (https:// is added if you leave it off). Each field detects text direction, so Arabic or Hebrew lines run right to left.
- Skills as a list. Separate skills with commas and each one appears as its own item in the Skills section.
Not included: photo upload, multi-column layouts, color pickers, automatic bullets and cloud sync.
How to Use the Resume Builder
- Replace the sample Jane Smith details with your own, or click Clear all and confirm to start from blank fields.
- In Personal Info, fill Full name, Headline, Email, Phone, Location and LinkedIn or website, then write the Professional summary in two or three sentences.
- Under Experience, enter Job title, Company, Dates and one achievement per line; click + Add Experience for each further job.
- Under Education add Degree, School, Dates and optional Details, then list Skills separated by commas.
- Use + Add Section under Extra sections for certifications, projects, languages or awards.
- Pick Classic, Modern or Professional and read the preview once, line by line.
- Click Print / Save as PDF and choose Save as PDF as the printer.
Before you send it, run your contact address through the Email Validator and put your number into international format with the Phone Number Formatter. To check which words changed between two drafts of your summary, paste both into the Text Diff Tool.
Who Can Use This Resume Builder
- Students and graduates with little work history: leave Experience empty so Education follows the Summary, and add Projects under Extra sections.
- Career changers who want to reorder and re-edit quickly for each application.
- Freelancers who also bill clients with the Invoice Generator and want a plain single-column profile to send with a pitch.
- Job seekers on a shared computer, such as a library or school lab, who can build a resume and wipe it with Clear all.
Pair the finished resume with a cover letter from the Letter Generator, and use the Date Difference Calculator to work out how many years and months a role lasted. A QR code pointing to your portfolio also suits a printed business card. If you run a course, workshop or club yourself, the Certificate Generator makes printable certificates for the people who complete it.
FAQs: Free Resume Builder Questions
How do I make a resume and save it as a PDF for free?
Fill in the form (or click Clear all to start blank), choose Classic, Modern or Professional, then click Print / Save as PDF. In the print dialog set the destination or printer to Save as PDF (Microsoft Print to PDF on Windows) and save. Only the resume is printed, and the PDF holds real, selectable text.
Is it safe to enter my personal details in this online resume builder?
The builder runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded; you can confirm in the Network tab of DevTools that typing sends no requests. Your entries are kept in this browser's local storage so a refresh does not lose them. There is no account. On a shared or public computer, click Clear all before you leave to wipe your details from this browser.
Why did my resume disappear when I reopened the page?
The saved copy lives in the local storage of one browser on one device. It will not appear in another browser, on your phone, in a private window or after you clear site data, and it is not saved at all if the browser blocks storage. To keep a resume for good, save it as a PDF.
Is the resume ATS-friendly?
All three templates are a single column of real text with plain headings (Summary, Experience, Education, Skills) and no images or tables, a structure applicant tracking systems generally parse well. ZipConvert has not tested the output against any particular ATS, so no result is promised. Save a PDF unless the posting asks otherwise.
What is the difference between a resume and a CV?
In the US and Canada a resume is a short summary of work history, usually one or two pages, while a CV is a longer record used for academic, research and medical roles. In the UK, India and much of Europe, CV is simply the everyday word for a resume. This tool suits both: use Extra sections for publications, grants or teaching.
Can I add certifications, projects or languages to my resume?
Yes. Under Extra sections click + Add Section, type a Section title such as Certifications, and enter one item per line in Content. Add as many sections as you like and reorder them with the up and down arrows. Extra sections always print after Skills, so they cannot be placed above Experience.
Which resume template should I choose?
Classic has a serif font, a centered header and a thin gray rule under each section title, which suits traditional fields such as law, finance and academia. Modern has a left accent bar and small uppercase section titles. Professional has a thick top rule, a colored name and uppercase section titles with a colored rule beneath each. Switching never changes your content, so try all three in the preview.
