Summary: an income tax calculator that is free and private
An income tax calculator estimates the national income tax due on a gross annual salary and shows what is left. This one covers India, the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Choose a country, enter your gross annual income, and you get total tax, effective rate, marginal rate, take-home pay and a band-by-band breakdown. It runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded (you can check the Network tab in DevTools), and there is no sign-up.
Rates were checked on 5 October 2026. The result covers national or federal income tax only, so state, provincial and payroll taxes are not in it, and it is an estimate rather than tax advice.
The sum is: taxable income = gross income − allowance or deduction; tax = the total of (income in each band × band rate), less any rebate or credit; effective rate = tax ÷ gross income.

FAQs
How do I calculate income tax from my annual salary?
Subtract the deduction your country allows, such as the US standard deduction or India’s ₹75,000 for salaried income. Tax each slice of what is left at its band’s rate, add the slices, then subtract any credit or rebate. A single US filer on $75,000 has $58,900 taxable and owes $7,670 federal tax. The calculator shows each step.
What is the difference between marginal and effective tax rate?
The marginal rate is the tax on your next unit of income, normally your top band. The effective rate is total tax divided by total income, and it is lower because the lower slices are taxed at lower rates. A single US filer on $130,000 pays $19,934, an effective rate of about 15.3%, although the marginal rate is 24%.
Why is salary up to ₹12.75 lakh tax-free under India’s new regime?
For FY 2026-27 the section 156 rebate (formerly section 87A), up to ₹60,000, cancels the tax when taxable income is ₹12 lakh or less. Salaried taxpayers first deduct ₹75,000, so ₹12.75 lakh becomes ₹12 lakh taxable. Just above that, marginal relief limits the tax: at ₹12,10,000 taxable it is ₹10,400 including cess.
Why does UK tax rise so fast between £100,000 and £125,140?
The £12,570 Personal Allowance falls by £1 for every £2 of income above £100,000 and is gone at £125,140. In that range each extra £1 costs 40p of higher-rate tax plus 20p from the allowance you lose, an effective marginal rate of 60%. The calculator applies this taper.
Does this tax calculator include state tax, National Insurance or Medicare?
No. It estimates national or federal income tax only. Left out are US state tax, Social Security and Medicare, Canadian provincial tax, CPP and EI, UK National Insurance and Scottish rates, Australia’s 2% Medicare levy, the New Zealand ACC levy, and India’s old regime. A payslip will show more deductions than this result.
Which tax year do the rates use, and where do they come from?
Rates were checked on 5 October 2026 against official sources: the Income Tax Department for India’s FY 2026-27 new regime, IRS Rev. Proc. 2025-32 for the US 2026 year, GOV.UK, the Australian Taxation Office, Inland Revenue for New Zealand, and the Canada Revenue Agency. Tax rules change, so confirm figures at the source linked under the calculator.
Is it safe to enter my salary into this tax calculator?
Yes. The calculation runs in your browser and your income is not uploaded or stored, which you can confirm in the Network tab of your browser’s DevTools. Download PDF also builds the file on your device. The only outside link is the source link under the calculator, which opens the tax authority’s site when you click it.
