Summary: Calculate a Mortgage Payment Free, in Your Browser

A mortgage calculator finds the fixed monthly payment on a home loan from the home price, the down payment, the interest rate and the term. It uses the same fixed-payment maths as a home loan EMI calculator but takes the price and down payment, so you do not subtract them yourself. This one also shows the total interest and how the balance falls year by year.

It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded; the Network tab in DevTools shows no request carrying your numbers. It assumes a fixed rate and equal payments at the end of each month.

The formulas it uses

  • Loan = home price − down payment.
  • Monthly payment = L × r × (1 + r)^n ÷ ((1 + r)^n − 1), with r = annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100 and n = years × 12. At 0% it is L ÷ n.
  • Total interest = payment × n − L. Total Cost (Price + Interest) = home price + total interest.

  • Down payment as % or amount, with a toggle and a note under the field showing the other form.

How to Use the Mortgage Calculator

  1. Choose a Currency and type the Home Price.
  2. Enter the Down Payment and choose % or the currency symbol for how you want to type it.
  3. Enter the Interest Rate (% per annum) and the Loan Tenure in years.
  4. Read the Monthly EMI, then scan the Year-wise Breakdown.
  5. Press CSV or PDF to keep a copy.

Who Can Use It

First-time buyers can test how a down payment and term change the monthly cost, and people comparing lenders can enter each offered rate. Anyone refinancing can enter the remaining balance as the home price with no down payment, and students of finance can follow principal overtaking interest.

For a loan that is not secured on property, use the loan calculator; the EMI calculator takes a loan amount directly. Work out a down payment share with the percentage calculator and build the deposit with the savings calculator. The interest calculator and compound interest calculator show how interest accrues, the investment calculator shows what money you might otherwise prepay could grow to if invested, and the income tax calculator estimates income tax (it does not apply home-loan or mortgage-interest deductions). Buying abroad? Convert prices with the currency converter.

FAQs

How do I calculate a monthly mortgage payment?

The loan is the home price minus the down payment. The payment is loan × r × (1 + r)^n ÷ ((1 + r)^n − 1), where r is the annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100 and n is the number of months. A 40 lakh loan at 8.5% for 20 years gives an EMI of 34,712.93 a month and 43,31,103 in total interest.

How does the down payment change my monthly payment?

A bigger down payment means a smaller loan, so the payment and the total interest both fall. On a 400,000 home at 6.5% over 30 years, a 10% down payment gives a payment of 2,275.44 and 459,160 of interest, while 20% down gives 2,022.62 and 408,142. Type either a percentage or an amount.

Should I choose a 15-year or a 30-year mortgage?

A shorter term has a higher payment but far less interest. A 320,000 loan at 6.5% costs 2,787.54 a month and 181,758 in interest over 15 years, against 2,022.62 a month and 408,142 over 30 years. Pick the shortest term whose payment you can sustain, and compare both in the calculator.

Does the mortgage calculator include property tax, insurance or fees?

No. It covers the loan only: the monthly payment, interest and balance. Property tax, home insurance, mortgage insurance, maintenance, stamp duty, registration and lender fees are not included, so add them separately when you budget. Your figures stay in your browser and are not uploaded.

How much down payment do I need for a home loan in India?

As of October 2026, RBI loan-to-value limits allow banks to lend up to 90% for individual home loans up to ₹30 lakh, 80% for ₹30 lakh to ₹75 lakh and 75% above ₹75 lakh. That means at least 10%, 20% or 25% down. Stamp duty and registration are usually paid on top. Confirm the exact rule with your lender.

Can I prepay a home loan without a penalty?

Often yes. As of October 2026, RBI's Responsible Business Conduct Directions, 2025, which absorbed the July 2025 pre-payment rules, bar regulated lenders from charging prepayment penalties on floating-rate loans to individuals for non-business purposes, such as most home loans. Fixed-rate loans can still carry a charge if it is disclosed in the loan agreement and Key Facts Statement, so check yours.

Is it safe to enter my home price and loan details here?

Yes. The calculation, the CSV and the PDF are all produced in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Open the Network tab in DevTools while you type to confirm that no request carries your numbers. The calculator does not save what you enter.
