Summary: Calculate Your Class Grade Free and Privately

A grade calculator turns the scores you have so far, and the weights in your syllabus, into your current class grade. This free grade calculator takes weighted categories such as homework, quizzes and exams, shows your percentage and letter grade, and tells you the average you need on the remaining work to reach a target.

The calculator runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded (you can check the Network tab in DevTools). It does not save your scores between visits.

The formula is: current grade = sum of (category average × weight) ÷ sum of the weights of graded categories. Ninety percent on homework worth 20% and 80% on quizzes worth 15% give (90 × 20 + 80 × 15) ÷ 35 = 85.7%. To turn that into a grade point average, use the GPA calculator; to convert a raw mark such as 42 out of 50, use the percentage calculator.

Features

  • Four grading schemes. Standard (A-F with +/-), Simple (A-F), Pass/Fail (60% to pass) and UK Honours (First 70%+, 2:1 60%+, 2:2 50%+, Third 40%+). Universities weight modules differently, so treat the Honours result as a rough check.
  • Weighted categories. Add any number of categories with decimal weights such as 12.5%, then add scores with + Add Score.
  • Two ways to average. Category average can be Total points (earned ÷ possible) or Each score counts equally.
  • Partly graded courses. Only categories with scores count towards the current grade. The panel shows how much weight is graded and the Locked in figure (0% on the rest).
  • Extra credit and weight warnings. Points earned may exceed points possible. A warning appears when weights do not add up to 100%.
  • What Grade Do I Need? Type a Target Final Grade (%) or click a letter from the scheme to see the required average.
  • Category Breakdown and presets. See each category average and its points towards a 100-point final. The College and Simple presets fill in typical weights and ask before replacing scores.
  • Copy Result. Copies your current grade, letter and graded weight.

How to Use the Grade Calculator

  1. Pick a Grading Scheme and the Category average method your teacher uses.
  2. Press the College or Simple preset, or edit each category's name and weight to match your syllabus.
  3. Press + Add Score in a category and type the points earned and points possible for each graded item.
  4. Read the Current Grade panel: percentage, letter grade, graded weight and the locked-in figure.
  5. Under What Grade Do I Need?, enter a Target Final Grade (%) or click a letter, and read the average required on the remaining work.

Scores written as fractions, such as 17/20, can be checked with the fraction calculator, and the scientific calculator handles anything else. For essays, the word counter checks length, and the countdown timer and date difference calculator help you plan toward a deadline.

Who Can Use It

  • High school and college students who want to know where they stand mid-term and what the final must score.
  • UK and Commonwealth students who think in percentages and degree classes rather than letters.
  • Teachers and tutors double-checking a weighted gradebook.
  • Parents who want a quick, private check without logging in to a school portal.

FAQs

How is a weighted grade calculated?

Each category average is multiplied by its weight, the results are added up, and the total is divided by the weight of the categories that have scores. For example, 90% on homework worth 20% and 80% on quizzes worth 15% gives (90 × 20 + 80 × 15) ÷ 35 = 85.7% so far.

What grade do I need on my final exam to get an A?

Enter your other scores, then type your target or click a letter under What Grade Do I Need? On the Standard scheme an A starts at 93%; on Simple it starts at 90%. The calculator solves (target × total weight − points earned so far) ÷ remaining weight. With 85% on 35% of the course and a 93% target, you need (93 × 100 − 85 × 35) ÷ 65 = 97.3% on the rest.

Why are categories without scores left out of my current grade?

A category you have not been graded in yet is future work, not a zero. The calculator bases your current grade only on categories that have scores and treats the rest as remaining weight. It also shows the grade you have locked in if you score 0% on everything that is left.

Should I use total points or count every score equally?

Many gradebooks add up the points you earned and divide by the points possible, so a 50-point test counts five times as much as a 10-point quiz. Some teachers average the percentages so every score counts equally. Check your syllabus, then pick the matching Category average option.

What if my weights do not add up to 100%?

The calculator still works. It divides by the total weight you entered, which is the same as scaling the weights to 100%, and a warning shows the actual total so you can compare it with your syllabus. A category with 0% weight is ignored.

How do I include extra credit or dropped scores?

Enter extra credit as points earned above points possible, for example 105 out of 100. The calculator accepts it and counts it in the category average. For a dropped score, delete the row or clear its points earned, following your course policy.

Is it safe to enter my grades into this calculator?

Yes. The calculator runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded; you can check the Network tab in DevTools. It does not save anything between visits, so reloading the page resets it. Use Copy Result if you want to keep your current grade.
