Universal converter โ€” preview build

The any-to-any client-side converter is being optimized for Cloudflare. Drag-drop UI is finalizing in the next deploy. Meanwhile, every individual converter tool below works today โ€” and your files never leave your device, the same as the universal converter will be.

Local-only Premium: 7-day cloud restore
Browse 200+ live tools

Your files never leave this device. Period.

Other converters upload your tax returns, medical scans, and contracts to a stranger's server. We don't. ZipConvert ships the conversion engine to your browser as WebAssembly. The file you drop in stays on your machine โ€” through every step, until you download it.

  • No upload. The file is read locally and processed locally.
  • No tracking pixels on the converter. No third-party analytics on file activity.
  • Open Network tab in DevTools โ€” you'll see zero file traffic during conversion.

Premium users can opt in to encrypted 7-day cloud restore โ€” useful if you want to redownload a converted file from another device. It's off by default. Privacy stays primary.

Why people use ZipConvert

The boring stuff done right: fast, private, free, and no install.

Your files never leave your device

Every conversion runs in your browser using WebAssembly. There's no upload step. We literally can't see your files because they never reach our servers.

Faster than any uploader

Skip the upload-wait-download loop. A 50-photo batch finishes in 12 seconds on a mid-range laptop. Big videos run as fast as your CPU can crunch them.

1,000+ formats, one tool

JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, PDF, DOCX, MP4, MP3, WebM, MOV, FLAC, ZIP, EPUB โ€” and a long tail of formats you've never heard of. If a browser can read it, we can convert it.

Actually free, not free-trial

No watermarks, no daily caps, no "upgrade to download." The free tier handles files up to 100 MB. Premium adds optional 7-day cloud restore โ€” opt-in only.

Drag in a folder, walk away

Queue up 50 files at once. Mix formats. Convert them all to PNG, or all to PDF, or each to its own target. Download as a single ZIP when it's done.

Real options, not toy ones

Set quality, bitrate, page ranges, trim points, target dimensions. Aspect-lock toggles. Compression presets. The same controls a desktop tool gives you, in a tab.

Format matrix

Drop in the format on the left. Pick any column on the right. Common pairs are listed here โ€” the universal converter supports thousands more.

How ZipConvert beats the alternatives

Three honest comparisons. We'll tell you when the other option is fine.

vs CloudConvert and similar uploaders

They charge per minute, queue your job behind paying customers, and keep your file on their server until their retention timer fires. ZipConvert runs on your machine โ€” no queue, no per-minute pricing, no "please wait, server busy." If your file is over 5 GB or you need server-grade transcoding for an enterprise pipeline, sure, use a cloud service. For everything else, this is faster.

vs desktop apps (HandBrake, Photoshop, etc.)

Great tools โ€” if you've already installed them, learned them, and updated them. ZipConvert opens in a tab. Same conversion quality for the 90% of jobs people actually do, zero install, works on any OS, including the locked-down work laptop where you can't install software.

vs ffmpeg / imagemagick CLI

If you live in the terminal and you're scripting a pipeline, ffmpeg is unbeatable. If you just need to turn a MOV into an MP4 once, you don't want to read a man page. ZipConvert is a UI on top of the same WASM-compiled ffmpeg under the hood โ€” same engine, no flags to memorize.

Questions people actually ask

Is ZipConvert really free?

Yes. Every converter and tool here works without a login or payment. No watermark, no daily limit, no "please subscribe to download." Premium ($4/month) adds opt-in 7-day cloud restore and raises the per-file limit from 100 MB to 5 GB โ€” you don't need it for normal use.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser using a WebAssembly engine that's downloaded once and cached. Open your browser's Network tab while you convert โ€” you'll see no outbound file traffic. The only network calls are page assets and (if you opt in) anonymous error reporting.

What's the maximum file size?

100 MB per file on the free tier, 5 GB on Premium. The real limit is your device's available memory โ€” a phone with 4 GB of RAM will choke on a 2 GB video, regardless of plan. Desktop with 16 GB+ RAM handles almost anything.

Which formats are supported?

Over 1,000 input/output combinations across images (JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, TIFF, BMP, GIF, SVG, ICO), audio (MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A, AAC), video (MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, MKV, GIF), documents (PDF, DOCX, DOC, MD, HTML, TXT, EPUB, MOBI), spreadsheets (CSV, XLSX, JSON, XML, YAML), and archives (ZIP, TAR, 7Z, RAR, GZ). Drop a file in โ€” if it's not supported, we'll say so up front.

How does client-side conversion actually work?

The conversion engine โ€” a WebAssembly build of ffmpeg, libvips, pdf-lib, and a few others โ€” downloads to your browser the first time you visit (~30 MB, cached after). When you drop a file, JavaScript hands the bytes to the WASM module, which runs the same C/C++ code a desktop app would, but inside the browser sandbox. The output bytes come back, and the browser saves them as a download.

Can I convert PDF to Word (DOCX)?

Yes. Drop the PDF in, pick DOCX as the target. Text and basic formatting carry over. Complex layouts (multi-column academic papers, image-heavy brochures) are best-effort โ€” that's true of every PDF-to-Word converter, including the paid ones, because the PDF format wasn't designed to round-trip back to Word.

Is there a batch limit?

Free tier: 50 files per batch. Premium: 500. The total memory cost matters more than the file count โ€” 50 small images convert faster than 5 huge videos. The queue runs them in parallel up to your CPU's core count.

What happens to Premium files after 7 days?

If you opted into cloud restore, your converted file is encrypted client-side and stored in Cloudflare R2 for exactly 7 days. After that, it's deleted automatically โ€” we don't keep a backup. The encryption key stays in your browser; if you lose your account, the file is unrecoverable. Don't opt in if that's not what you want.

Does it work offline?

After the first visit, yes. The WASM engine is cached by the service worker, so once you've loaded the page on a device, conversions work even with no internet. You can disconnect Wi-Fi mid-conversion and finish the job.

Why is this faster than CloudConvert?

Two reasons. One: no upload. A 200 MB video uploads in roughly 30 seconds on a 50 Mbps connection. ZipConvert skips that step. Two: no shared queue. Cloud services run your conversion on a shared server alongside other users; here, your own CPU is dedicated to your job. The trade-off is that very heavy jobs (4K transcoding for an hour-long video) will be slower on a phone than on a beefy cloud server. For anything under ~500 MB, local wins.

Do you support HEIC from iPhone photos?

Yes. AirDrop a HEIC, drop it into ZipConvert, pick JPG or PNG. Most browsers can't display HEIC natively but the WASM decoder handles it fine.

Will my converted file have a watermark?

No. The free tier produces clean output, identical to what you'd get from a paid tool. We make money from Premium upgrades, not from degrading the free experience.

Drop a file. Get it converted. Move on with your day.

No signup. No upload. No watermark. The converter is right there at the top of this page.
