Summary: translate Morse code online, free and private
A Morse code translator converts text into International Morse code, a series of short dits and long dahs, and back again. To translate free and privately, type or paste your message into Input Text and the code appears under Morse Code Output as you type. Choose Morse Code to Text to decode. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded (you can check the Network tab in DevTools).
Letters are separated by a space and words by a slash. It covers A to Z, 0 to 9, ร and 18 punctuation marks, plays the code as audio and saves a WAV file. Decoded text comes back in capitals; the text case converter fixes that.

Features
- Two directions and Swap. Swap turns the output into the new input and flips the direction.
- Forgiving decoder. Words can be split by /, |, a new line or three spaces, and typographic dots and dashes such as โข and โ are read as dits and dahs.
- Clear notices. A yellow note says when accented letters were sent as their base letter (ร keeps its own code), and lists ITU sequences such as 2% sent as 2-0/0, characters left out because no code exists, and codes the decoder did not recognise.
- Custom symbols. Use one to four characters as dit and dah. The tool rejects spaces, / and |, identical symbols and symbols that contain each other.
- Audio you control. Speed runs from 5 to 40 WPM (starting at 20) and Tone from 400 to 1000 Hz (starting at 600).

Who Can Use a Morse Code Translator
Learners and scouts hear how a word sounds before copying it by ear. Puzzle makers build clues for escape rooms and treasure hunts, and can layer them with ROT13 or the text encryption tool. To compare encodings, try the text to ASCII converter, the binary to text converter or the Base64 encoder. To hear speech instead of beeps, use text to speech, and check message length with the word counter.
FAQs
How do I translate text to Morse code?
Keep Text to Morse Code selected and type or paste your message into Input Text. The code appears under Morse Code Output with a space between letters and a slash between words, so "HI THERE" becomes ".... .. / - .... . .-. .". Upper and lower case give the same result.
How do I translate Morse code to text?
Choose Morse Code to Text and paste the code into Input Morse Code, with a space between letters and a slash, vertical bar or new line between words. Dots and dashes typed as โข and โ work too. The result is in capital letters, and codes that are not valid Morse are shown as ๏ฟฝ and listed.
Can I listen to Morse code or download it as audio?
Yes. Set Speed (5 to 40 words per minute) and Tone (400 to 1000 Hz), then click Play Morse Code. Download Audio (.wav) saves a mono 16-bit, 22,050 Hz WAV file. Audio is limited to 10 minutes and works in both directions, so you can also hear Morse code you are decoding.
What is SOS in Morse code?
SOS is the international distress signal: three dits, three dahs, three dits. Sent as a distress call it runs together as one unbroken sequence, ...---..., and this translator decodes that form as SOS. The letters do not stand for "Save Our Ship"; the pattern was chosen because it is simple to send and hard to mistake.
Which characters does the Morse code translator support?
Letters A to Z, digits 0 to 9, ร and 18 punctuation marks: . , ? ' ! / ( ) & : ; = + - _ " $ @. As ITU-R M.1677-1 specifies, % is sent as 0/0 and ร as X. Most other accented letters, such as ร or ร, become their base letter; ร, ล, emoji and Cyrillic are left out and listed.
How fast is 20 WPM in Morse code?
Speed is measured with the word PARIS, which takes 50 time units to send, so one unit lasts 1.2 divided by the WPM in seconds. At 20 WPM a dit is 0.06 seconds, a dah and a letter gap are 0.18 seconds, and a word gap is 0.42 seconds.
Is my text sent anywhere when I use the Morse code translator?
No. Translation and audio generation run entirely in your browser, nothing you type is uploaded, and downloads are created on your own device. You can confirm this in the Network tab of your browser's DevTools, which shows no request carrying your text while you type or play.
