Meta Tag Configuration

Basic SEO Tags

Google usually shows the first 50โ€“60 characters; it cuts titles by pixel width (see preview).

Up to about 155โ€“160 characters usually fits on desktop; longer text is cut off.

Google ignores the keywords tag; leave it empty unless another system uses it.

Always UTF-8: the HTML standard requires it, and it covers every language and emoji.

Summary

Meta tags are small HTML elements in a page's head that tell browsers and search engines what the page is called, how to describe it, whether to index it and which address is the preferred one. To generate them free and privately, type a Title Tag and Meta Description, choose a Robots setting, optionally add a Canonical URL, and click Copy All Meta Tags. The tags are built in your browser and nothing is uploaded, as the Network tab in DevTools will show.

The tool writes the charset, viewport, title, description, optional keywords and author, robots and canonical tags in a safe order, escapes quotes and angle brackets for you, and draws an approximate Google result so you can see a title that is too wide. For the tags that shape link previews on social networks, use the Open Graph generator; for site-wide crawl rules, the robots.txt generator.

Features

  • Eight tags in one block: charset (always UTF-8), viewport, title, description, keywords, author, robots and canonical. Empty fields are left out; the charset and robots tags are always written.
  • Four robots choices: Index, Follow (the default), No Index, Follow, Index, No Follow and No Index, No Follow.
  • Canonical check: the address must be an absolute http or https URL. A valid one is passed through the browser's URL parser, so the host is lowercased and a bare domain gains a trailing slash.
  • Length counters: characters are counted as you type and turn red above 60 for the title and 160 for the description. Whitespace and pasted line breaks in the description are collapsed to single spaces.
  • Search preview: a desktop-style result with the domain and path taken from your canonical URL. It cuts the title at 600 pixels wide and the description at two lines, then says which one was cut. It is an approximation, not Google's own rendering.
  • Copy or download: Copy All Meta Tags copies the block; Download HTML File saves meta-tags.html, a minimal page with the tags already inside the head. Load Sample fills an example and Reset clears the form.

It does not generate Open Graph, Twitter Card, hreflang or structured-data markup, and it does not remember your entries after a reload. For rich-result markup, use the schema markup generator.

How to Use the Meta Tag Generator

  1. Type the Title Tag and Meta Description. Watch the counters and the Search Result Preview; shorten anything flagged as cut off.
  2. Choose Robots, enter the page's Canonical URL if it can be reached at more than one address, and leave Viewport alone unless you need something different. Keywords and Author are optional.
  3. Check the Generated Meta Tags box. If you only want an example first, click Load Sample.
  4. Click Copy All Meta Tags and paste the block inside the head of your page, or click Download HTML File for a starter page.

Writing the page content next? Draft it in the Markdown editor, turn the headline into a URL with the slug generator, and tell crawlers where the page lives with the sitemap generator.

Who Can Use It

Developers building a static site, bloggers and shop owners whose platform has no SEO fields, and marketers who need to hand a copy-ready snippet to a developer all get the same result: valid tags without hand-escaping quotes. Tidy the rest of the page with the HTML beautifier, check it in the HTML previewer, or add a browser-tab icon with the favicon generator. Counting characters in a longer text? Use the character counter.

FAQs

How do I add meta tags to my website?

Fill in the title and description, choose a robots setting, add a canonical URL if needed, then click Copy All Meta Tags. Paste the block inside the head element of the page, above the stylesheet links. If your site is built with a CMS or framework, put the values in its SEO settings or head template instead. Every page needs its own title and description.

How long should a meta description and title tag be?

Google sets no fixed limit: it truncates by device width. As a working guide, this tool's counters turn red above 60 characters for a title and above 160 for a description, and its preview warns when text is too wide to fit. Put the important words first, because anything cut off is lost. Mobile results usually show less than desktop.

Do meta keywords still matter for SEO?

No, not for Google. As of October 2026, its Search Central documentation says the meta keywords tag is not used by Google Search and has no effect on indexing or ranking. The Keywords field here is optional and is left out of the output when empty. Spend the effort on a clear title and description instead.

Why is Google showing a different title or description from mine?

Google builds snippets mainly from the page content and uses the meta description only when it describes the page better than the text it finds. Titles can be rewritten too, for example when the same boilerplate title is repeated across many pages. A specific, accurate, unique pair for each page makes it more likely that your wording is the one shown.

What does noindex do, and when should I use it?

Choosing No Index, Follow outputs <meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow">, which asks search engines to keep the page out of their results while still following its links. Use it for thank-you pages, internal search results and drafts. Do not also block the page in robots.txt, because a crawler that cannot fetch the page never sees the noindex tag.

When do I need a canonical URL?

Use one when the same content opens at several addresses, such as with and without www, with tracking parameters, or with sort options. The canonical link names the preferred address so signals are consolidated there. It must be an absolute http or https URL; the field shows an error for anything else, and a bare domain is written with a trailing slash.

What is the difference between meta tags and Open Graph tags?

Meta tags such as the title, description and robots speak to search engines and browsers. Open Graph tags (og:title, og:image and others) control the preview card shown when a link is shared on social networks and in chat apps. This generator makes the first kind only; the Open Graph generator builds the second.

Is it safe to enter my page details in an online meta tag generator?

Here, yes. The tags are built in your browser and nothing you type is uploaded, as the Network tab in DevTools will show. The form is not saved either, so reloading the page clears it; copy or download your tags first.
